French door refrigerators continue to be the hottest trend in kitchen refrigeration. The Liebherr CS 2062 has become one of the more popular french door refrigerators in the premium category ($4000 +) as this offering from the German manufacturer provides tremendous value for the dollar. The CS-2062 boasts dual compressors (similar to a SubZero), which separate the air flow between the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Why is this important? So your ice cream doesn't taste like last night's salmon! The CS2062 is also flexible from a design standpoint in that it can be used as a counter-depth fridge or, with the right honing of your cabinets, the CS2062 can also be used in a "built-in" application, where the fridge is pretty much flush with the cabinetry.

Since SubZero hasn't introduced a french door refrigerator (though there are rumors one will be introduced in a few years) the only competition that Liebherr has in this space (that's worth mentioning) is the Thermador Freedom series T36IT71FNS in stainless or the T36IT71NNP which accepts a custom panel. While the Thermador french door refrigerators definitely have their followers, the price difference is about $2000 more than the Liebherr and Thermador is only using one compressor while the Liebherr is on the dual system.

The key point regarding the dual compressor system is that they run on variable speeds. The key point regarding the dual compressor system is that they run on variable speeds, thus they are more energy efficient and quieter as they never have to ramp up from a dormant position. And of course since the compressors are always running you will receive superior cooling performance for your refrigeration needs. And yes, the CS-2062 is Energy Star-certified!

For further clarification on the Liebherr compressors, I turn it over to "Andrew" at the Liebherr company:

Although the compressors do indeed run at variable speeds...they are not always running...they do turn off once the set point temperatures have been reached. They are also off for automatic defrost. "

Thank you Andrew!

Aesthetically speaking, it's a beautiful piece. It offers glass shelving which is durable and withstands large amounts of pressure. While I'm not going to tell you that the CS-2062 has smudge proof stainless steel finish, I have noticed that y coating it with a stainless preservation solution that soaks into the stainless grain, the finish seems to be more resistant to fingerprints than most stainless steel refrigerators. And the CS 2062 is quite spacious for a 36" fridge, as it offers almost 20 cubic feet of capacity (13.6 in the fridge and 6 in the freezer). Freezer drawers are on telescopic rails so as to ensure easy accessibility.

Wondering if the CS 2062 will fit in your space? Here are the dimensions:

Height: 80 9/32"

Width: 35 7/8"

Depth: 24 1/4"

Customers seem to be drawn to the Liebherr CS2062 for a variety of reasons - the looks, the price point in comparison to other built-ins with two compressors or the Liebherr reputation for quality. The feedback I have received from customers who have owned this unit for at least a year has been overwhelmingly positive. if you are looking for a refrigerator similar to these dimensions or styling, do yourself a favor and check out the Liebherr CS 2062.

The VCC compressors on Liebherr refrigerators do not run constantly. The speed is variable but one of those speeds is zero. When the set temperature has been achieved or during an automatic defrost, the compressors will be turned off.
